From Builder-Grade to Beautiful: A Home Transformation

When my friend decided to sell her home, she faced a challenge—after years of living in the space, it had become tired and lacked the warmth and personality buyers crave. It was a spec-built house with basic finishes, and it needed a serious dose of charm to maximize its value.

I started in the heart of the home—the kitchen and dining area—where I installed striking pendant lights over the island and a chandelier in the dining room to instantly elevate the space. A large mirror above the fireplace added depth, while carefully curated accessories, including white pottery and a birdcage filled with ivy and moss, brought life to the room. Outside, I focused on curb appeal—an essential element in any sale. A beautifully arranged planter on the front steps welcomed guests, and I added an elegant chandelier, mirror, and shelf in the entryway to create an inviting first impression.

The living room came together with Nancy Meyers-inspired furnishings, layered rugs, and my go-to design secret—black and white artwork—to add sophistication. Upstairs, I replaced outdated curtains with flowing linen panels, and in the bathrooms, I worked with what we had, disguising old vanities with fresh white paint, elegant glass knobs, and plush white towels hung on hooks. Thoughtfully placed accessories—soap dishes, trays, and framed artwork—completed the transformation. By the time I was finished, no one even noticed the age of the cabinetry!

Outside, the home’s faux stone exterior felt uninspired, so I softened it with vibrant yellow tulips in window boxes, giving the home a charming cottage-like feel.

In the end, the results spoke for themselves—the home not only looked beautiful but also resonated with buyers on an emotional level, leading to a sale price half a million dollars over asking. It was a reminder that with the right design touches, any space can be transformed into something truly special. Whether you're preparing to sell or simply want to breathe new life into your home, I’d love to help you create a space that feels as good as it looks.
