Restoring a Brooklyn Gem: From Neglect to Timeless Beauty

This was a hidden treasure buried under decades of neglect. Located in one of Fort Greene’s grand 1880s mansions, this once-stunning residence had sat untouched for 20 years, frozen in time since 1981. Dust-covered floors, a barely functional kitchen, and a bathroom straight out of a haunted house movie made it feel anything but inviting. The kitchen was especially dire—tiny, outdated, and completely unusable, with no working appliances. The floors were grimy and in desperate need of sanding, while the windows were so dirty they barely let in light.

My client, a young first-time buyer, saw potential but needed my help to bring it to life. Her vision was simple: a fresh, functional space with a beautiful kitchen and bathroom. Luckily, we had incredible bones to work with—soaring ceilings, gorgeous natural light, a fireplace, and classic prewar details.

With careful planning and thoughtful design choices, we transformed the space, honoring its historic charm while making it feel fresh and livable. The result was a stunning revival, proving that with the right approach, even the most forgotten homes can shine again.
